Putting Down Roots Emmanuel Spiff is the garden coordinator for the JCC Harlem and Hunger-Free America, where he’s responsible for teaching children to grow food. He has deep roots in the work, having been raised on a farm. “Since I was a child, I’ve found gardening to be therapeutic,” said Emmanuel. After experiencing homelessness and unaddressed health challenges, the steady work is as rewarding as it is restorative. And a new stable home to return to at the end of the day helps ensure Emmanuel can continue to improve his health and well-being. ICL’s respite center helped support Emmanuel in his journey. | |
