| | | | | | | | Proven Models for Improving Mental Health, this Month and Every Month At ICL, we know what works when it comes to supporting New Yorkers with the most serious mental health needs—and we’re proving it every day. For more than 40 years, we’ve delivered a person-centered, trauma-informed continuum of care that treats the whole person, not just their mental health. From supportive housing to outpatient clinics, to our Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) teams and innovative STEPS program, ICL provides a full spectrum of services that help people stay housed, avoid hospitalization, engage in treatment, and rebuild their lives with dignity and stability. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re not just talking about reducing stigma; we’re showing what’s possible when people are met with compassion, not judgment. Our recent anti-stigma video is just one way to remind New Yorkers that recovery is possible and support is out there. And not just in May, but every day of the year, we’re committed to expanding access to care for more people. |

| | ICL Closes on New Permanent, Affordable Housing “The Atlantic” |
| We are proud to announce our newest housing development: The Atlantic, a newly constructed, 10-story multifamily building at 2886 Atlantic Avenue in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn! In partnership with Camber Property Group, ICL acquired this building with the support of the New York City Department of Social Services. This residence with on-site social services includes 183 affordable apartments designed to provide safe, stable housing for individuals and families who have faced homelessness. The new building is a short walk from the East New York Health HUB, ICL’s one-stop center for integrated primary and behavioral health care. This stunning building is a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to expanding access to affordable housing and comprehensive care across New York City. We’re proud to take this next step forward and excited about the future it represents. |

| | | Celebrating Two of our Own as 2025 Nonprofit Trailblazers! Congratulations to Troy Boyle, ICL’s chief operating officer, and Saeeda Dunston, ICL board member and CEO of Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities, on being recognized by City & State New York for their outstanding leadership. Troy’s person-centered leadership is felt by the 10,000 New Yorkers we serve each year, from overseeing essential services to helping launch STEPS, a $2.3 million pilot improving housing outcomes. Saeeda is a passionate advocate whose leadership continues to shape housing, equity, and opportunity in Queens. We’re honored to work alongside these exceptional leaders. |
| | Remembering Arlene Handel We mourn the loss of our friend, Arlene Handel, an admired and compassionate champion of many noble causes, among them ICL. Since 2016, Ms. Handel has been dedicated to supporting ICL’s work. Her generosity during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic stood out. During one of New York’s most challenging moments, Arlene stepped forward to care for those who needed it most. ICL Board Member Henry Tobin, a friend of Ms. Handel for decades, recently reflected on her legacy with us: “She was very concerned about human rights, social equality, and the dignity of human life. She also deeply believed that each of us has a responsibility to help others who need help when it's necessary.” We will miss her expansive vision and commitment to the lives of the adults, families, and children we serve. |
